3 Bus AC Maintenance Tips to Extend Lifespan & Cut Repair Costs
Saving on bus air conditioning isn't only about energy efficiency. Reducing repairs and extending equipment life matters just as much. Here are 3 details fleet managers often overlook:
Deep Maintenance Before Seasonal Shutdown
Before parking the A/C for winter, run the fan mode for 30 minutes to dry moisture inside the evaporator—this prevents mold growth and corrosion. Clean or replace the cabin air filter at the same time. Then, before restarting next summer, perform a full inspection of the electrical circuits and refrigerant lines.
Avoid Frequent On/Off Cycling
When the vehicle is briefly stopped or idling, don't switch the A/C on and off repeatedly. The compressor draws a large inrush current at startup—wasting energy and accelerating compressor wear, which shortens its service life.
Monitor the Electronic Control Unit (ECU)
For new energy (electric) bus A/C, the ECU is the core component. Regularly check wiring harness connectors and temperature sensors. ECU faults can cause abnormal compressor operation, increasing both energy consumption and equipment loss.
