A bus air conditioning system, also known as an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system, is engineered to deliver stable, comfortable cabin temperatures for passengers across sweltering summers and frigid winters. TCHAIN (Foshan Shunde Taichang Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd.) designs full-spectrum bus HVAC solutions covering new energy electric buses, traditional diesel coaches and built-in integrated air conditioners. Every system relies on six core modules: electric/engine-driven compressor, high-efficiency condenser, low-noise evaporator, expansion device, eco-friendly refrigerant, and intelligent electronic control unit.
The compressor acts as the core power source of the whole refrigeration cycle, responsible for circulating refrigerant throughout the closed pipeline system. When cabin temperature sensors send cooling/heating demand signals, the compressor compresses low-pressure refrigerant vapor into high-temperature, high-pressure gas and pushes it toward the condenser.
TCHAIN supplies two mature compressor solutions to match different vehicle types:
Traditional diesel bus AC: Belt-driven compressors powered by vehicle engines with reliable electromagnetic clutches for stable power output.
New energy electric bus AC: High-voltage DC electric compressors compatible with DC420~720V vehicle power systems, featuring energy-saving frequency conversion and low noise, fully adapted to pure electric buses, coaches and special vehicles.
High-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant gas discharged from the compressor flows into the rooftop-mounted condenser assembly. Multi-row microchannel heat exchange fins maximize contact with external ambient air, rapidly transferring heat carried by refrigerant to the outside atmosphere. Under constant airflow from high-power cooling fans, refrigerant releases massive heat and condenses from gaseous state into high-pressure liquid.
TCHAIN optimizes condenser structural design for tropical and subtropical high-temperature operating environments, improving heat dissipation efficiency to avoid system overload during long-distance continuous operation.
After passing through the expansion device, low-temperature liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator coil installed inside the bus air duct. Internal fans force warm, humid cabin air to sweep over the ultra-cold evaporator surface. The refrigerant absorbs heat from passenger air to cool the cabin, while water vapor in humid air condenses on coil surfaces to realize built-in dehumidification, eliminating stuffiness and fogged windows.
TCHAIN evaporators support multiple functional combinations: single cooling, PTC auxiliary heating, plate heat exchanger, heat pump circulation and integrated expansion water tank modules, meeting heating and cooling demands in both northern cold regions and southern hot areas.
Both components control the liquid refrigerant flow into the evaporator to realize rapid pressure and temperature drop, yet TCHAIN adopts differentiated configurations for different product lines:
Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV): Equipped on most new energy air conditioners. Controlled by temperature sensing bulbs at evaporator outlets, it automatically adjusts refrigerant flow to maintain optimal superheat, boosting overall energy efficiency under variable passenger loads.
Fixed Orifice Tube: Used on cost-effective small traditional bus AC units. Simple structure with stable flow restriction, suitable for light-duty 5–7m mini coaches and shuttle buses with stable operating conditions.
Refrigerants are the heat transfer medium of the whole HVAC cycle, with phase change characteristics under varying pressure and temperature. TCHAIN selects targeted refrigerants for distinct product series to balance environmental protection and cooling performance:
Traditional diesel bus air conditioners: R134a, mature, stable and widely applicable for 5–14m fuel coaches, school buses and transit vehicles.
New energy electric bus air conditioners: R407C and low-GWP R410A, low carbon footprint, high heat exchange efficiency, perfectly matching heat pump and PTC heating systems for pure electric buses.
All TCHAIN refrigerants comply with international environmental protection standards and do not damage the ozone layer.
TCHAIN’s self-developed electronic control system integrates multiple sensors, safety switches and ECU logic modules to realize full intelligent monitoring of the air conditioning unit:
Temperature sensors collect real-time cabin and evaporator temperature data to adjust fan speed and refrigerant flow automatically.
High/low pressure protection switches cut off compressor operation to prevent pipeline damage under abnormal system pressure.
Human-machine climate control panels support independent adjustment of fan speed, air outlet mode, cooling/heating and temperature setpoints.
For new energy models, the ECU communicates with the whole vehicle VCU to coordinate battery power output, avoiding excessive power consumption that reduces driving range.
All control circuits, wiring harnesses and electronic components are independently produced by TCHAIN, with complete IP67 waterproof and dustproof protection for harsh road conditions.
TCHAIN bus air conditioning systems integrate mature vapor-compression refrigeration cycles with independent R&D structural optimization and intelligent control technology. Through continuous compression, condensation, throttling expansion and evaporation of eco-friendly refrigerants, our full range of AC units deliver consistent cooling, heating and dehumidification for all bus models from 5m mini coaches to 14m long-distance coaches and double-decker buses.
With a 39-year manufacturing history founded in 1987, Foshan Shunde Taichang Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd. (TCHAIN) joined Shengzhuo Holdings in 2021 and owns a provincial engineering technology research center for new energy bus air conditioners. We are designated benchmark suppliers for Yutong, King Long, CRRC, BYD, Geely and other top domestic bus OEMs, offering over 60 AC models for 6–14m vehicles, plus complete supporting spare parts, production, maintenance and after-sales services for buses, trucks and special vehicles across global markets.
